This region, which circles the bay, features significant topographic relief, with Douglas-fir/tanoak stands and redwood forests as well as drier oak/pine stands and chaparral.
Typical insect and disease problems
• Sudden oak death
• Pitch canker of pines, especially Monterey pine and bishop pine
• Flatheaded fir borer in Douglas-fir
• Canker rots, true mistletoes, bark beetles, and ambrosia beetles in oaks
• Tree, shrub, and herb regeneration problems caused by non-native Phytophthora species
