<p>The tour will feature the current mountain pine beetle outbreak in lodgepole and whitebark pine with an emphasis on mountain pine beetle biology, individual tree protection and stand level management. Other topics include the effects of thinning on fir engraver beetle caused tree mortality, Heterobasidion root disease in white fir, Jeffrey pine beetle outbreak dynamics and insects and diseases of aspen. CE Credits from DPR will be applied for.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><span style="color: #800000;">Where and when to meet:</span></h4>
<p>We will meet in Likely, CA at 9:00 am. From there we will travel up into the south Warner Mountains of the Modoc National Forest visiting a variety of forest types such as white fir, Jeffrey pine, mixed conifer, lodgepole and whitebark pine (if accessible). Be prepared for short hikes and inclement weather. Bring your own lunch, water, sunscreen and hardhat. We will return to Likely between 4:30 and 5:00 pm.</p>

<h4><span style="color: #800000;">Directions:</span></h4>
<p><strong>From the south</strong>: Take US 395 north from Susanville to Likely (85 miles; ~1.25 hours).</p>
<p><strong>From the west (and north):</strong> Take CA 299 from Redding to Alturas (145 miles; ~2.75 hours). Then take US 395 south from Alturas to Likely (18 miles; ~20 minutes). Please plan to carpool as much as possible from Likely into the forest.</p>
<h4><span style="color: #800000;">Lodging:</span></h4>
<p>Hotels are available in Alturas (18 mi), Susanville (86 mi) and Burney, CA (109 mi). Early reservations are recommended.</p>
