- Review diagnosis and management of goldspotted oak borer, sudden oak death, pitch canker, other pests of concern
Summary
This training combines indoor and outdoor activities to sharpen insect and disease diagnostic and management skills for arborists working in urban areas of the South Bay. Arborists are the first line of defense against urban forest invasive species such as the polyphagous shot hole borer, which was recently trapped near Los Gatos and is causing dramatic damage on a broad range of trees in southern California.
This workshop focuses on recognition and management of hardwood and conifer invasive tree pests, such as pitch canker, sudden oak death, and other urban forest health problems. Attendees will receive up-to-date information on current issues threatening local urban areas and have an opportunity to fine-tune field skills. Ted Swiecki’s 2013 sudden oak death management guide will also be provided.
